How to play 4×4 Sudoku
Fill every row, column and 2×2 box with 1, 2, 3 and 4, each exactly once. Starting numbers cannot be changed. No arithmetic or guessing is needed.
Try this first
If a row contains 1, 3 and 4, its empty cell must be 2. Before placing it, check the column and the 2×2 box too. Look for a row, column or box with just one space left.

Nine steps, no guessing
- R2C3 = 1Row 2 needs 1 or 4. Column 3 already has 3 and 2, and the top-right box has 4, so R2C3 is 1.
- R2C1 = 4Row 2 now needs only 4, so R2C1 is 4.
- R3C4 = 3Row 3 needs 1 or 3. Column 4 already has 1, so R3C4 is 3.
- R3C1 = 1Row 3 now needs only 1, so R3C1 is 1.
- R1C1 = 2Row 1 needs 1 or 2. Column 1 already has 1, so R1C1 is 2.
- R1C2 = 1Row 1 now needs only 1, so R1C2 is 1.
- R4C1 = 3Column 1 now needs only 3, so R4C1 is 3.
- R4C2 = 2Column 2 now needs only 2, so R4C2 is 2.
- R4C3 = 4Row 4 now needs only 4, so R4C3 is 4.
